I love this book! I laughed, I cried, I carried it with me everywhere- the laundry room, the kitchen, the car. I literally loved it to death. The cover is curled, the pages splattered with coffee, there's a dryer sheet for a bookmark. I simply couldn't put it down. Every woman should read this book and then talk, talk, talk about it with friends. It's a mesmerizing love story for grown- ups. Devour it like I did. You'll never forget it!
Arabella Ark's "Pants on Fire" is a compelling tale of a woman's quest for love and beauty. The story unfolds through a succession of searing, soul-searching emails that slowly unravel the haunting, secret world of the characters and their volatile connections. Like the Matisse nude on the cover, their world is simple and complex at the same time, their story, a tale within a tale--revealing both the subject and the artist. Not until the end does one realize how shrewdly the author has conceived and executed this close-to-the-bone chronicle. (And that includes me--Arabella is a friend.)
Arabella Ark, a renown raku potter, uses fire in her art. She also uses fiery language in the tale of Wylie and Ariane, mature adults who ignite in each other a conflagration this is destined to incinerate them both. Ariane is puzzled by the painful ending of their relationship but she does not know Wylie has secrets, not only of the heart but also of the mind. The novel is told in detailed emails that reveals the characters and their interactions in lyrical fashion. It evokes, incites and satisfies.

I found the level of personal honesty refreshing. The reader is in Ariane's skin through much of the book, so it was a bit of a plot twist to find that she-- the protagonist-- wasn’t necessarily reading the cards correctly.
I was titillated by the early sex passages. The compound where Wylie lived is fascinating; if it doesn’t exist, it should. I also found the World War II angle intriguing and wanted more.
All-in-all, I think Pants On Fire! would make a hell of a mini series!
